Living in the Power of Covenant
One of the key measurements of a disciple of Jesus Christ is how he or she relates to other believers. It is so important that Jesus Christ himself spoke passionately about it throughout his ministry life. As we experience the Christ through his teachings, it is virtually impossible to miss the importance of covenant to Him. He calls us to be passionate about others, compassionate towards others, and forgiving despite others. This is so important to him that even his own life reflects the genius of his message. The cross is foundational to covenant and the evidence of authentic love is that Jesus Christ offers himself for others.
I believe that covenant is a clear measurement of what is healthy in the life of a disciple. Thus, the local church must make important the equipping of her members in the area of covenant. Small groups become a powerful and helpful tool in equipping believers to live out the mandate of covenant. For within small groups, no one can hide. Everyone is accountable to everyone else. Within the group, each member is given the responsibility of caring and sharing, for the good of the whole. Covenant then is nurtured and massaged within each member, growing each for the greater assignment of witnessing to the lost.
As a Senior Pastor committed to the model of small groups, I want to encourage each of you to make yourself available to School of Discipleship (SOD). Know that each of us is called to be functional and healthy in covenant. Know, as well, that Christ will require of us that our relationships are reflective of his love and his commitment to our salvation. So join us and grow with us as we live in the power of covenant.
